Loose Glitter Mixes by The Glitter Haunt! Add these loose glitter concoctions into any acrylic powder or gel to create that one of a kind nail!! The possibilities are endless!
To avoid product break down while making your own glitter powders/gels, you have to be careful to get your ratio mix just right...
Mixing too little glitter in your powder/gel can make the glitter seem sparse.
Mixing too much glitter can cause the acrylic/gel to not set properly, be brittle/break easily and/or cause premature lifting.
By following these simple steps you can achieve perfect glitter acrylics/gels.
Glitter can be mixed 2 ways:
For acrylic powder: Using a wet brush method where you dip your brush in liquid, dip it in the glitter mix and then dip it into your acrylic powder, creating a wet bead of acrylic that you place on the nail. Repeat until you get the coverage you're after. Lay a thin coat of clear acrylic over final creation. File, buff and top with top coat.
For gel: Apply a thin coat of builder gel over entire nail and then either sprinkle the loose glitter into the wet gel or place the larger glitter pieces where ever you want on the nail, patting into the wet gel. Cure for the time needing according to your brand of gel. Then top with at least 2 coats of gel over. File, buff and top with top coat.
OR you can create a mix in a separate jar.
You will need:
- Your choice of acrylic powder or gel.
- Your choice of glitter.
- Empty jar or pot to mix glitter powder or gel into.
- Measuring spoons.
- Mixing spatulas
How to mix:
Step 1: Start with an empty jar. Use a clear jar for acrylic mixes and a white (non see through) jar for gel mixes.
Step 2: Pick your choice of powder/gel. You can use a clear acrylic powder/gel or a colored powder/gel of your choice.
Step 3: To avoid product break down, here are mixing ratios that I have found work good - For finer glitter, your mixture ratio should be 2:1 (2 parts powder/gel, 1 part glitter). For chunkier glitter, your mixture ratio should be 3:1 (3 parts powder/gel, 1 part glitter). These ratios are strictly for example and may not suit everyone but they are a great starting point. You can mix accordingly to your own liking.
Step 4: Acrylic powder: Screw the lid tightly on the jar and shake thoroughly, making sure all the powder and glitter is fully mixed. Gel: Use your mixing spatula to stir gel and glitter thoroughly.
Step 5: Sky's the limit! Start creating!
Step 6: Store unused portion with lid tightly secured.
Please note: The color and density of the glitters in the photos may vary due to lighting and/or your screen monitor resolution.
